forget the part about "-ss 00:00:00" helping; can't reproduce that now
for whatever reason. But I did discover something interesting. In all
recent cases where I've had occational subtitles fail to appear, or in
cases where subtitles were refusing to appear at all, I've been able to
get them to all appear properly by using "-nosound". This really
confuses me as to what relation turning off sound and subtitle rendering
would have in common. It could be a demuxer bug, or a bug introduced by
the way the A/V sync timing is handled.
This issue seems to go back a very long time in mplayer.
