You probably don't have the capture device set properly.  Use alsamixer
(or alsactl if you like), and mark "Line" and "Capture" as capture
devices. I've been recording TV using alsa drivers for several months
now with the same soundcard as you.  Although, I'm not lucky enough to
have a bt878 card that btaudio supports.
