Try XScreensaver http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver

Any program that can draw to the X root window can be used as a screen saver 
module.

A suitable line to execute mplayer for use in xscreensaver might be:

mplayer -vo xv -rootwin -fs moviefile.mpg
