[MPlayer-users] not auto detecting best codec!

What command line are you using when you have the problem?  Are you sure 
you're using the -vc option to select a codec, not -vo?

What happens if you add "-vo x11" every time?  That -vo device should work all 
the time, assuming you're running X-Windows.
