Just an idea for the Win32 port:

why not utilize this AC3 filter for AC3 hardware oputput under windows?

Windows codecs are already supported - why not just use one for the audio output?

The ABSOLUTELY ONLY reason for me and some friends using windows media player instead of mplayer, is that mplayer can't output AC3 sound to the SP/DIF port of the soundcard.
