Sorry for don't provide all neccessary information ..

the original dimensions are SVCD-format (480:576) , if I take -vop   
crop=0:390:0:92 the result is very nice ... 

Now I have read tech/vop.txt twice and think too the results of cropdetect 
should work , but the result with that values are crap ... maybe a bug in the 
-vop crop=... ?? I have uploaded the file, so that you can see at your own 
what I mean ...  I hope you can reproduce this , since you wont help me if I 
tell you which compiler I did use to compile mplayer/mencoder ;o)
