[MPlayer-users] 0.90pre3: bad dvd a/v sync, occasional crackling

Hey, I just checked out mplayer, and it looks like it's just what I
want... especially due to the slave mode and ability to display into
arbitrary X11 windows (I'm thinking of building an XWT front end
[xwt.org] for it).

Worked great out-of-the-box, except for two problems. I was testing
with _Requiem For A Dream_, and:

1. Audio is always about 1/4 second off.

2. Sometimes, immediately upon starting up mplayer, the audio will
   "crackle" with a tiny echo effect. Sorry, that's the best
   description I can come up with. Quitting mplayer and restarting
   usually fixes this, but it's annoying to have to do this.

This is on a 1.2Ghz machine with i815 OSS audio and an ATI Mach64
card. The bizarre part is that I've encountered *both* of these
problems under XINE on a completely different machine, using ALSA
instead of OSS. I wonder what the common cause could be...
