I now encoded a divx file to an mpeg2 using mencvcd.. however the output
was COMPLETELY out of sync (the original is not)

Will mencoder ever be able to create (s)vcd output directly, creating the
full audio/video file at once, like the tmpgenc tool for windows does, for
instance. Chopping the file into audio/video streams and encoding them
seperately introduces far too much opportunity for error, since the
individual encoders and multiplexer do not know which sound section
corresponds to which frame of video.
Also, i would have thought that since mencoder can already encode to
mpeg/mpeg2 format, it should not be especially difficult to make it output
in the correct format for use on (S)VCD.
