OK, well, I just got pre3 and it is still there.  If no one else has
a clue about it, maybe I'll make it a debugging project tonight and
contribute.

I haven't checked -vo xv.  The fs bit appears to be passed in a bitmask
into the decoder.  But this x11/xv difference means something might be
happening at the output level.
