[MPlayer-users] Wishing for 1.0...

Hello everybody,

First, congrats to the developers of the development of Mplayer. It is a
great tool, although I haven't been able to get all of it yet (see my
previous post)

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to help programming (but I will send
a small donation in cash soon :-)

I DO have some ideas that might take Mplayer to version 1 and help the
developers to get some insight on the needs of their users (at least one
of them :-)

1. A codec installer. 
Mplayer keeps adding codecs and I hardly can keep up. A nice simple
interface for adding codecs would be great. Although lots of things can
be said of RealPlayer, the 'This file I cannot play, but wait a moment,
I will check if I can download addition software' - feature is verrry
handy and would be a great addition to Mplayer. To make sure software is
available, and to avoid having a central database, maybe a kind of
Gnutella network can be thought of to get the packages.

2. Bookmarks. 
It would be very handy if files and urn's could be bookmarked.

3. Merger with XMMS
More and more, I start playing videoclips instead of mp3's whenever I
want to listen to music. Although XMMS can play video's too, I am
switching between the programs more and more. Maybe Mplayer and XMMS
could agree on a kind of merger to create a multimedia center? Oh, and
ask the ppl of Grip to join too :-)

4 Authoring
More and more people own cams, (handy, web, etc). Authoring with Mplayer
(MAuthor?) of course would greatly add to the experience of MPlayer. But
that would be something for version 2 :-)

Anyway, just some thoughts. Pls continue with your fine work and make us
small, non-programming users happy :-)
