Well, my commit removed a few printfs, some day we will get rid of them
all...

That's just silly.  Under this assumption we could make MPlayer print
out - say - all of its config files on startup.  That would surely be
useful to SOMEONE SOMEDAY...

That's why there are verbose (or debug) modes.  Right now much of the
interesting output is hidden behind excessive verbosity, so people just
ignore it completely.  Don't confuse messages useful to developers with
those useful to users.  There should be different output modes for the
two different target audiences.

Errmm, why don't you try vlc, xine, ffplay, avifile, ogle or something
else comparable to MPlayer instead?  All of them are quite terse.
