Though I haven't done anything for mplayer for ages, I would like to notice
here that many people don't know C++ like me. C is the core language of
mplayer development. You should not include C++ and start to mix them, or
let's rewrite the whole mplayer in C++ (ehh, it's only a joke), but I don't
think so that most of the developers who want to understand the full source
belong to mplayer will by happy, because quite a few people can code in both
of C and C++ and java and ... at the same required level. Since mplayer is
C, C++ should not be introduced at least not in the "official" GUI which
should be coded in C like other parts of the MPlayer. So the only real
choice is GTK. Also Qt is very ugly ;-) But it's another (flame) topic,
so I stop here.
