it's known that gcc 3.x optimizes better on AMD than 2.9x.
but unfortunatelly it's in reverse for intel p3/p4.
at least it was for older 3.x, dunno about 3.3/3.4
someone should repeat your measurements on intel platform.
also a comparison to intel cc would be interesting.
