This is probably due to you running mencoder several times without
removing the .idx file between each run.  The reason for mencoder not
removing the file automatically is that one can put several languages
in a single .idx/.sub file.  So the idea is that you run mencoder to
rip each one in turn ("mencoder -sid 0 -vobsuboutindex 0" then
"mencoder -sid 1 -vobsuboutindex 1" etc...) and mencoder will just
append the new language to the existing files.

Were those duplicate frames due to vobsub ripping or are they also
here when you don't rip subs?  I have not changed things in fps
calculation.

Note that I usually encode the movie normally then rip subtitles with
something like:

    seq 0 5 | while read n; do mencoder -o /dev/null -ovc frameno -oac copy swep1.mpg -vobsubout swep1 -sid $n -vobsuboutindex $n; done

Off course, if you rip directly from DVD it might prove a bit
longish...

Indeed, mplayer's vobsub code is much more tolerent than Vobsub's.  I
have discussed a number of the problems with Gabest and I think that
my new code solves them all and outputs Vobsub compatible subtitles.
I'll do a commit soon and inform you.
