I think we will never reach v1.0 :)
v1.0 means (for me) a bugfree program with all basic features implemented.
and as we know - no bugfree programs exists :)

problem is not so simple.
as i'm the leader, and i know all the details and internals of mplayer,
i have to help all such development. and i'm interested too :)
for your example - xanim: the big part of the work was made by alex.
he made a plugin loader interface, but i did the integration into mplayer.

about libvo2:
i have requirements, ideas for it, but no time to design it in details and
implement it. that fuckin' users ask their stupid questions all the time,
and that not-so-fuckin' :) developers ask their not-so-stupid questions all
the time. and i have to read through all patches and fix them if needed.
